Worship and Praise to our Father in Heaven!
Worship means different things to different people.  Actually, worship is much so more than any single definition we may have.  The American College Dictionary has the following definition for the word worship:  to feel an adoring reverence or regard for; to honor or glorify. In Hebrew, worship means: to worship, prostrate one self, bow down. In Greek, worship means: deep respect and reverence, to revere, and to have devotion, and having a sense of awe.  The Greek word proskuneo means,  "towards," and "to kiss."  Some uses in the New Testament also mean: to serve.
Singing is only a part of what worship is. Being a worshipper speaks of our relationship and daily interaction with God. Music is a gift from Him, as it is only the icing on the cake of the full day to day walking and talking we have the privilege to experience with our Father who is constantly pursuing us. He loves spending time with us.
Praise is also a term that doesn't always convey the same meaning to each of us. The American College Dictionary has the following definition for praise: to express admiration; to commend or extol; to glorify, magnify, exalt, value, prize, compliment, or acclaim. In Hebrew, praise means: to praise, celebrate, glory, sing, or boast. Some forms of praise can also mean: shouting, jubilation, and thanksgiving. In Greek, praise means: praise, commendation, sing. It can also mean, to bless.
Once again, singing is only a part of what it means to have a lifestyle of praise. A life filled with thanksgiving and appreciation for all the things God does for us will be a blessed life. His presence is peace in a storm and joy in the midst of the most distressing situation. The Bible says that God actually rejoices over us with singing. Zephaniah 3:17-18 says, "The Lord Your God is with you…He will save you. He will show you how much He loves you. He will show you how happy He is with you. He will laugh and be happy about you, like people at a party." Another translation says, "He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will renew you in His love; He will exalt over you with loud singing as on a day of festival."
Wow! I wished we could grasp how much He is in love with each of us. He was never surprised with our sins.  Without Him, we are a bunch of rebels, but with Him we are new creations in Christ Jesus. In Christ, He gave EVERYTHING to win our hearts. Why is it so hard to completely lose ourselves in Him, while it is so easy for us to celebrate during sporting events, concerts, parties, etc…   I love sporting events, concerts, and parties, and yet He is so much more.
I love the following quote by C. S. Lewis: "Worshipping God establishes our inner health, or emotional state, in the light of who God is. Too often we set our emotions in the light of who other people are. We can become discouraged if we compare ourselves to others. Rather than looking at others, we should look at God by worshiping Him. Spending time with Him will give us knowledge of His great love for us and help us to view ourselves as God sees us. Worship restores our inner health."
Worship and praise is definitely a lifestyle that pleases God, changes us, and influences those around us.
